What is Awana?
Awana is an international, Bible-centered youth organization. At First Baptist, Awana provides a weekly club meeting and special programs for three-year-olds through 6th grade. The acrostic AWANA comes from 2 Timothy 2:15: Approved Workmen Are Not Ashamed. The goal of the Awana club at First Baptist Church is to minister to the children of our church and to be an outreach to the families of our community.
Why Awana?
Awana encourages spiritual, social, physical and intellectual growth in children. The program is designed to bring the Gospel of Jesus Christ to boys and girls and to train them to serve Him. It uses a Bible-based curriculum and activities to help children understand the Word of God. From the example of leaders who care about them, children learn how to use the Bible in their everyday lives. Team building and sportsmanship are an important part of the fun and exciting games each week. Kids always come back for more!
Weekly Activities
Club meetings offer a large group time when clubbers and leaders come together for singing and an exciting Bible lesson. Each meeting includes a small group segment where clubbers have an opportunity to complete sections from their handbooks, and to interact individually with their leaders. Nightly themes and four-team competition make game time the highlight of the week.
Special Events
Each year clubbers have an opportunity to participate in outside activities that encourage spiritual growth and build friendships. We join together with many other Awana clubs at annual regional competitions. These events are for clubbers who complete a minimum of ten sections in their handbooks. Details of these events are available from your club commander.
Awards
Awana offers a unique award system that helps motivate clubbers to memorize Bible verses. Various incentives reinforce good behavior, encourage future achievement, and create enthusiasm for learning.
Cubbies
Is a two-year preschool program for 3 and 4 year olds which encourages parent participation. Your children will love Cubbie Bear and his friends who visit each week to encourage them as they achieve in their handbooks. The handbooks provide a colorful Bible memorization curriculum and sensory activities designed especially for preschoolers. Children learn foundational truths about God, and about colors, shapes, numbers, and letters. Cubbies display their awards on their blue vest which they wear to club each week. As Cubbies, your children will learn that Jesus loves them, and how they can show God’s love by helping and obeying.
Sparks
Is a program designed for children kindergarten through second grade. It includes a fun firefly character named Sparky and a nature motif. Sparky encourages and motivates children through their handbooks, which are centered on Bible verse memorization and other fun enriching activities. The children receive both participation and achievement awards which are displayed on their red Sparky vest. In Sparks, your children will learn how to share Christ with their friends, obey their parents, and how to pray for others.
Truth & Training
Is a new program for 3rd through 6th grade boys and girls. Clubbers wear a green T-shirt with the accompanying award badge. Updated handbooks provide a variety of Bible memorization and service activity achievements. In these clubs, boys and girls discover the Ultimate Adventure--knowing Jesus Christ as Savior. They get to know Jesus better as they hear and do the good things He has to say in His Word, the Bible.
